Workers' Compensation Overview

This practice involves dealing with claims managers and other personnel at the Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) and, if necessary, handling appeals before the Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals and in the court system. It also involves dealing with companies who administer L&I claims on behalf of employers who are self-insured.

Carter W. Hick  and Avelin P. Tacon III represent injured persons in workers’ compensation (L&I) claims. Carter was previously an Assistant Attorney General for the Department of Labor & Industries. He now utilizes his experience litigating industrial insurance claims before the board of Industrial Appeals and in Superior Court for the benefit of injured workers. Avelin has been handling L&I claims for injured workers since the late 1970's. Avelin has been the attorney in numerous cases denominated as Significant Decisions by the Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals and has handled workers’ compensation appeals in Superior Court and the Court of Appeals.

Workers' Compensation Fees:

The fee in L&I cases can be contingent (the attorney fee being a percentage of monies obtained) or based on an hourly rate, depending upon the type of problem presented and work required. Our attorneys will personally discuss your case over the phone at no charge, and if it is agreed that a face-to-face conference might prove fruitful, there is no charge for that conference
